Business apprentice, 18, hails housebuilder’s scheme and hopes to inspire more young people into the industry

A business apprentice from Bedfordshire is eager to pursue a career in housebuilding and hopes this is the start of her journey in the industry following her experiences at a national housebuilder. Reanna Green, 18, began her apprenticeship at Bovis Homes in October 2019 working at the housebuilder’s Northern Home Counties region in Milton Keynes. Reanna, who lives on a farm with her family in Greenfield, said: “Originally I did a year at college on a beauty therapy course but felt as though I wanted to pursue that as a hobby rather than a career. “I applied for a few different business apprenticeships and when I came for my interview at Bovis Homes – now part of Vistry Group – I loved the values and my line manager, Sue, sold the company to me. I thought a business apprenticeship in construction would be broad and I’d learn a lot which has definitely been the case.” “I have enjoyed my whole journey with the company and since discovering where my passion lies within the business, I hope this is the just the beginning of my housebuilding career. “Alongside my daily duties, I have been working across various departments – assisting the regional team where needed – and have particularly enjoyed my experience working in the land department. This is something I’m hoping to pursue. “I could not recommend an apprenticeship at Vistry Group enough. It’s the best thing I’ve done.” Explaining that’s been easier for time management, Reanna has been completing her Level 3 Business Apprenticeship studies online at Derby-based college Babington. She said: “With studying virtually, I’ve found it a lot easier and have much more control of when I do my work.” From the announcement of the Government’s first lockdown in March 2020, Reanna has spent the majority of her apprenticeship working from home. Speaking of experience, she said: “Working during the coronavirus pandemic has not been easy but the support from my line manager, as well as having my family around me, has made things a lot better.” Andrew Bloxham, regional managing director, said: “Reanna has proved to be an asset to the business and has adapted to all the challenges that home working brings. Her enthusiasm and willingness has proved to be invaluable to our region.” In her spare time, Reanna enjoys making the most of the nearby countryside with long muddy walks, as well as shopping and enjoying afternoon teas.
