From school site visit to finalist!

Trainee assistant site manager, Tyler Gaston has been named as a finalist and is shortlisted in the rising star category in the Bristol Property Awards, which recognise and celebrate the best of Bristol property. Tyler joined Vistry Group, which includes Bovis Homes and Linden Homes, after signing up to a school visit at The Orchards development in Thornbury in 2018, where students could learn more about the housebuilding process and the diverse range of jobs. Impressing the construction director at the event, Tyler was offered three weeks’ work experience. He said: “I loved the work experience; I knew straight away that I wanted to be out on site and couldn’t believe it when I was offered a job!” Tyler, who lives in Pilning near Bristol, joined the company in July 2019 following his A levels. He passed his HNC level four in construction and the built environment this year and has undertaken courses in site management supervision, scaffolding, temporary works, first aid, and fire management, to further his knowledge. Perhaps unusual for most 20 year olds, he enjoys the early mornings and is up at 5.30am, ready to be on site for a 7am start. Speaking about his achievement, Tyler said: “I’m delighted to be a finalist in the Bristol Property Awards and I couldn’t be happier to find a job that I love, with a clear mapped out career path.” Construction director, Mick Arnold commented: “Tyler’s an intelligent, fast-learning individual with the passion and commitment that matches his enthusiasm to get the job done. He has received glowing comments from customers and subcontractors who have taken the time to acknowledge his contributions on site and he has a fantastic attitude for learning. We’re delighted he’s been recognised in the Bristol Property Awards, it’s well deserved and we wish him all the best at the next stage.” Managing director, Dave Farley said: “Tyler has impressed everyone with his maturity, strong work ethic and attention to detail. Working and studying simultaneously – during a pandemic – is no mean feat and Tyler has taken everything in his stride. He is definitely one to watch and we’re incredibly proud of him and everything he’s accomplished so far.” The awards ceremony will take place on Friday 12th November at Ashton Gate.
