Grass roots football sponsorship a welcomed winter boost for Wakefield youngsters

BACK of the net! Wakefield youngsters have received a welcomed boost to their winter training plans – thanks to sponsorship from developer Bovis Homes. The housebuilder is supporting grass roots football in West Yorkshire by supplying the Wakefield Jet Falcons U12s with new outdoor training jackets. With the current pandemic restrictions making it difficult to carry out regular indoor training sessions, manager James Tolson says the new kit will be greatly appreciated once the schedule is resumed in the New Year. He said: “Along with many other activities and sports during these uncertain times, we have had to adapt to the many changes, new rules and regulations that face grass roots football. “With the season now on hold, and with indoor training not looking very likely at the moment, these new jackets will be really appreciated by the players as we anticipate spending a lot more time outdoors during the winter. “The smart new look will also help with the team atmosphere and bring the players closer together. Our huge thanks to Vistry Group for their generous support during these challenging times.” Supported by coach Jonathan Drake, the 13-strong team was formed nearly six years ago, and currently plays in Division 2 in the Garforth League, with the majority of matches played around the Wakefield district. Scott Stothard, managing director of Vistry Yorkshire, said: “We are delighted to be able to support grass roots football locally, not only the young footballers, their coaches, parents and supporters, but the families living in the communities where we are building in West Yorkshire. “The past few months have seen an unfortunate but necessary pause on so many sporting activities, that provide not only physical fitness but also mental wellbeing to so many young people. We hope James and the team will be able to resume their full training and match commitments very soon and look forward to seeing them in the Vistry sponsored jackets.”
