Housebuilder’s unique bare-all project shortlisted for two national awards

- 24 Sep 20

A housebuilder’s groundbreaking home in Wokingham – with features such as exposed ceilings and walls to reveal the construction process – has been shortlisted for two coveted national awards. Bovis Homes’ Unwrapped Home has joists, wiring and pipes on show to offer a unique learning experience to home buyers, tradespeople and students, and it is now a double finalist in the Housebuilder Awards 2020, which is run in partnership with the National House Building Council and Home Builders Federation. The special three-bedroom project, at Emmbrook Place, off Queens Road, is in the running for gongs in the Best Customer Satisfaction Initiative and Best Training or Recruitment Initiative categories. The ceremony will be held virtually later in December. Roger Morton, performance director at Bovis Homes – which is part of the newly-formed Vistry Group – said: “Bovis Homes is absolutely delighted with these two national award nominations for our unique Unwrapped Home, which saw our colleagues work tirelessly to create a house that could reveal the homebuilding process and answer many questions property buyers, students and even those working in the industry have. “For our Unwrapped Home to have been shortlisted in these customer satisfaction and best training categories at the Housebuilder Awards 2020 shows that quality, dedication, long-term thinking and commitment to customers really does pay off.” Visitors to the Unwrapped Home can see straight up into the roof space from the downstairs kitchen, and read information boards that explain what is going on in each room, with the journey ending at a fully decorated bedroom with en suite. House hunters have been able to view the new-look Spruce house type by appointment and the unwrapped property has also been available for school and university visits – with a new Education Centre built alongside it. The project has also been used as a training tool for Bovis Homes' apprentices and staff members, while the centre provides information and statistics for pupils, students, teachers and all those who want to know more about the build process. Cllr John Kaiser, executive member for housing at Wokingham Borough Council, officially opened the home to the public, in January. The Housebuilder Awards 2020 will take place, online, on 3rd December.
