Staffordshire hospice receives boost from local housebuilder

A local housebuilder has made a welcome contribution towards the vital services provided by Douglas Macmillan Hospice, based in Stoke-on-Trent. Bovis Homes, which has created new communities in the area, including Partridge Walk in Stafford and The Steadings in Essington, has donated £1,000 to the hospice which delivers care to patients in Stoke-on-Trent and North Staffordshire. Douglas Macmillan Hospice, known locally as Dougie Mac, provides all hospice services to children and adults with life limiting illnesses, all year round. The hospice also provides support for its patients’ families and loved ones and the donation will go towards the hospice’s counselling and bereavement service. Jilly Lawton, Trust and Philanthropic Fundraiser at Douglas Macmillan Hospice, said: “The hospice has been a beacon in the local healthcare landscape for 48 years. This year the hospice needs £15.4million to maintain services with 75% coming from voluntary donations from individuals, businesses, groups, Trusts and corporate foundations, such as Bovis Homes. £12.5m is for adult services with the remainder being for children and young adult services. “This donation means that Dougie Mac can continue to deliver choice to patients and their loved ones by providing space for them to express themselves at a time when they need it the most.” Freya Halsall, regional marketing assistant, said: “We are delighted to support the vital services provided by Dougie Mac with this donation.
