Former Royal Engineer Roger thrilled to be finalist in national ex-forces awards

A former Royal Engineer who works at a Bishop’s Cleeve-based housebuilder says he is “absolutely delighted” to be announced as a finalist in a major ex-forces awards.

Bovis Homes' Roger Morton
Roger Morton, performance director at Bovis Homes – part of the newly-formed Vistry Group which has regional headquarters at Cleeve Hall – has been shortlisted in the British Ex-Forces in Business Awards, out of more than 500 nominees.

Roger, from Leckhampton, is in the running for the Military Values in Business Award, which recognises a former serviceman or woman who has created successful business results by applying military virtues to their role. He joins two other Vistry Group employees who have also been shortlisted for an award.

Roger, who spent more than 20 years in the British Army, said: “All three of us are absolutely delighted to be finalists in the biggest awards event for ex-armed forces personnel in business. The military means a huge amount to Bovis Homes and we are thrilled to represent the company.

“Bovis Homes is extremely supportive of the armed forces family and having three finalists from over 500 nominees is testament to the business’ efforts.”

Roger joined Bovis Homes in 2016 and has played an integral part in numerous initiatives, which have contributed to the business becoming one of the leading housebuilders in the country.

As well as establishing leadership and trainee programmes, he has also been passionate in addressing mental health issues and improving staff well-being. Roger has also been the driver behind Bovis Homes receiving the Ministry of Defence's Armed Forces Employer Recognition Scheme Gold Award – the first dedicated housebuilder to receive the accolade.

The shortlisting follows Roger’s success at the prestigious Housebuilder Awards last year, where he won The Housebuilder Star Award, at a glittering ceremony in London.

Rob Tarn, senior safety, health and environmental manager at Bovis Homes, is in the running for the Rising Star award. Alan Gilfillan, site manager at Bovis Homes’ The Landings location in Braunton, has been shortlisted in the Outstanding Achiever of the Year category.

Former Sgt Maj, Alan, and ex-RAF Regiment Gunner and Military Guard, Rob, added they were “very proud” of their shortlistings.

The awards ceremony is one of the world’s flagship platforms for providing visibility of veterans' achievements in the wider workforce and promoting the strong synergies between military values and business excellence. It takes place at Grosvenor House in London, on 25th September.
