National housebuilder steps in to offer vital support as Covid forces Marie Curie into emergency appeal

Vistry Group has donated £5,000 to Marie Curie, to support the charity as it launches an emergency appeal during the coronavirus pandemic.
Marie Curie relies on the generosity of others to deliver invaluable care to terminally ill patients, but due to the coronavirus outbreak, critical fundraising activities have diminished. The charity is facing a devastating loss of funds, which is why Vistry Group – which includes Bovis Homes and Linden Homes – committed to making this donation.
The money will go towards supporting the crucial work performed by the charity to help care for and support patients and their families through terminal illness.
Aaron Coleman, community fundraiser for the charity, said: “On behalf of Marie Curie I’d like to thank everyone at Vistry Group for their outstanding donation. These are very uncertain times for the palliative care charity and this donation will make a big difference.
“For those unaware of our work, Marie Curie is here for people living with any terminal illness, and their families. Vistry Group’s donation will help to enable Marie Curie to offer expert care, guidance and support to help families get the most from the time they have left.
“Marie Curie services, such as our nursing service, are offered to families free of charge and they are currently in great demand, however most of our fundraising streams have stopped completely due to the coronavirus outbreak so we cannot thank the housebuilder enough.”
Every day and night, Marie Curie nurses and frontline staff are giving vital support to people in homes and hospices across the UK. At this time of national emergency, these crucial services are needed more than ever as the NHS is put under ever greater strain.
Clare Horgan, a Marie Curie nurse, said: “Families are very grateful that we’re still coming in overnight, because they don’t want their loved ones going into hospital due to the coronavirus risk. They’re grateful they're still getting the support that they need at the end of life.”
Graham Prothero, chief operating officer at Vistry Group, said: “We are delighted to support Marie Curie with this donation. Charities have been hit particularly hard by the current global situation and it is imperative that these invaluable services are able to continue supporting vulnerable people.”
