A dream home in their dream community

When Jess Eddy and her partner Dean Goulding found their dream Bovis Home in Gloweth, on the outskirts of Truro, they knew they were moving to a spacious, open-plan, three-bedroom property with a south-facing garden.

The wonderful surprise was discovering that they had moved into a vibrant and active community of like-minded neighbours, where they have quickly made lots of new friends.

"Within no time we'd swapped numbers with people and we all know each other really well now," Jess says. "We see our next door neighbours practically every weekend. We've become the best of friends. It's really lovely."

She puts this sense of community at the development, known as 'Trelowen', down largely to the efforts of the Bovis Homes sales team - Anita, Helen and Jessie - because they go the extra mile for their customers.

"They really got to know us and they have done so much for us," says Jess. "They were so fab, so professional, and the number of questions you ask them - how do they know all this stuff?!

"They've got a great knowledge of everything when it comes to buying a house and they have helped build a little community here where everyone comes together. They really have been incredible."

Jess and Dean started their house search back in June 2015, eager to move and be settled before they get married next year. On a spur-of-the-moment visit to Trelowen they fell in love with the Sheringham house design and, as luck would have it, the perfect plot had just come available.

"It's on a corner so it looks like it's all on its own," says Jess. "It's beautiful and we've got a really nice south-facing garden as well; but the main reason we chose Bovis Homes was because the finishing touches were just incredible compared to what we'd seen: door handles and the panels in the doors, good quality flooring, the kitchen with everything built in; there was no comparison."

Jess is the main receptionist at Penryn Campus, which is jointly managed by the University of Exeter and the University of Falmouth, while Dean is a physical trainer in the Navy, based at RNAS Culdrose.

They used the Government's Help to Buy Equity scheme to secure their purchase the home; where the buyer requires just a five per cent deposit, the Government provides an equity loan - interest-free for the first five years - of 20% of the property's value, and the buyer can then access a 75% mortgage, opening the door to more competitive lending rates.

A few months after they put down their reservation fee, they moved into their new home, with their dog, a jackawawa called Rodney, and a cat called Denzil, whom they named after characters in their favourite sitcom Only Fools and Horses.

"It was a bit surreal. When we got the keys, we came in and I sat down on the stairs. I was feeling so sick," says Jess. "I couldn't move. I was like: this can't be my house; it's too good for me; it's beautiful. I don't think I've ever wanted anything as much as I wanted this house. I love it so much."
