Adventurer Dan climbs Kilimanjaro with support from the housebuilder of his new family home

A father-of-two in Warwickshire with a love for adventure who climbed the highest mountain in Africa has been unwinding in his new home since the impressive feat after moving into a popular new-build location. Dan Collett, who moved to Bovis Homes’ – part of the newly-formed Vistry Group – Furrowfields location in Bishop’s Itchington says the family community is perfect for their lifestyle – and he is delighted the housebuilder supported his Kilimanjaro expedition. Watch a video of Dan describing his adventure, at his new-build home in Bishop's Itchington. Dan completed the impressive climb in Tanzania as part of a team of three friends to raise funds for the Tuberous Sclerosis Association, which supports individuals of the rare condition, plus their families and carers. Bovis Homes donated £100 to the cause. Dan, who is general manager at an automotive supplier, said: “We really didn’t know what to expect when it came to the climb, we’d trained up Snowdon but nothing can prepare you for the scale of Kilimanjaro. We like to think of ourselves as fit lads so we had a go at cracking it as best we could. “In our team, there were three of us including organiser Scott, who arranged the climb to raise money to support his nephew through the charity. My other friend is an avid climber and it was a lifetime ambition to climb Kilimanjaro. We were there with 15 porters who helped us climb and it was just such a great experience. “You can’t beat that feeling of being at the summit, especially if it’s with two of your close friends and we’ll always have those memories. We loved the culture in Tanzania but it also brought home that we’re lucky and fortunate to live the way we do. “From the sales team at Bovis Homes to the site manager, the personal touch they have given us has been brilliant. They listened to what we wanted and were there whenever we needed them, we’d use Bovis Homes again with no hesitation. We looked at buying an older house but we have two young children and this enabled us to have the finishing touches and appliances that we wanted without any hassle meaning we can spend our time with our two young kids making great memories. “Furrowfields is in the perfect spot on the edge of the village. There are great schools and walks nearby and it’s close to the motorway. My wife, Tamsyn, grew up in Bishop’s Itchington and we’re back where we belong, it’s a fantastic community.” Dan and his friends have further challenges in their sights and aim to do an ultra-marathon for the Warwickshire & Northamptonshire Air Ambulance next year. Adrian Wood, regional sales and marketing director at Vistry West Midlands, said: “Bovis Homes is delighted to donate this money to the Tuberous Sclerosis Association, which is such a unique cause. We’re very impressed with Dan’s achievement in climbing Kilimanjaro and are delighted he and his family are so happy with their new-build home at Furrowfields.”
