Apprentices learning their trade at Warwick Gates

- 12 Oct 16

A national house builder has welcomed 24 new apprentices to its sites across the country, helping to meet the increasing demand for more skilled labour in the construction industry.

Among the new recruits are William Evans and Matthew Best, who have started work at Bovis Homes' Warwick Gates location in Warwick. The apprentices are learning practical skills out on site as well as attending City College Coventry to further develop their knowledge.

"I've got family in the building business and have some understanding of it, so I was looking for an opportunity to get some practical skills," says William, 16, who previously attended Henley-in-Arden School and is now doing a bricklaying apprenticeship.

"When I saw the vacancy for an apprenticeship with Bovis Homes it captured my interest," he continued. "Once I have all the practical skills, I would like to work my way up and maybe look at site management."

Based on a site for three to four years, the new Bovis Homes recruits are undertaking apprenticeships in carpentry, bricklaying and plumbing.

In recent years, Bovis Homes has taken on more than 100 apprentices in trade and office placements, and the scheme has progressed and developed over this time, increasing the intake across the country.

Susan Brown, Group Trainer at Bovis Homes, says: "Apprenticeships are a fantastic way to gain practical work experience and achieve a nationally recognised qualification, while earning a real wage."

"We're really proud to be able to provide the support and training required to help our apprentices' progress through the company, and it's great to see so many ex-apprentices still working here and rising up the ranks!"

Situated less than two miles from Warwick town centre, Warwick Gates has a range of three, four and five bedroom family homes available. The show home and sales centre is open daily from 10am - 5pm.
