Army Major swaps housebuilder day job for London Ambulance Service volunteer role

An Army Major from Hook Norton has swapped housebuilder offices for the London Ambulance Service NHS Trust as he volunteers his operational expertise.

Military Liaison Officer James Davis, land manager at Vistry Group – which includes Vistry
Partnerships, Bovis Homes and Linden Homes – is based at LAS headquarters where he is
coordinating military support to help the Trust.

James attends daily LAS progress meetings and reports to the Army’s London District HQ along with MLOs from the NHS, London Resilience Forum and Nightingale Hospital.

James, who served in the Army for 10 years and is volunteering while furloughed from his day job, said: “I am grateful for the opportunity to help during this extraordinary time. My role is to enable support from the military to the London Ambulance Service where appropriate, which can vary day-to-day with logistics.

“I remain ready, responsive and resilient and feel privileged to work alongside hardworking,
lifesaving professionals.”

James works for the Vistry Partnerships Thames Valley region, which he joined last month after transferring from Linden Homes. His last role in the Army was in the Basing team, which provides infrastructure for Army units. He has been a reservist since 2018.

James is married to Camilla and has two children, Percy, 4 and Isabelle, 2, plus four-year-old
cocker spaniel, Floyd.

Vistry Group is actively encouraging staff who are not at work to volunteer, and helping to organise collections of critical medical kit to hospitals in different parts of the country.
