A site manager in Braunton, who has lived in the area for more than 30 years and says it is the perfect place to live, has won a major national award for housebuilding excellence.

Alan Gilfillan, based at Bovis Homes’ The Landings location, off Exeter Road, has won the National House Building Council (NHBC)’s Pride in the Job Quality Award, after being selected from more than 16,000 site managers across the UK.

Alan, who has lived in nearby Barnstaple for three decades and worked at The Landings for two-and-a-half years, said: “For me and the Braunton team, this was something we all set our minds to achieve.

“I always thought we were capable of winning the Pride in the Job Quality Award and we’re absolutely delighted to have done so.”

Alan added that working in such a scenic location was a privilege, with the 180-mile walking and cycling route, called the Tarka Trail, which runs beside The Landings, being a highlight for families, who are spoilt for choice with activities.

“We are so well located, this is just the perfect area,” he said. “I’ve lived here for 30 years and it’s such a great place for couples, young families and the elderly.

“There really is something for everybody here, whether it’s shops, entertainment, beaches or you’re keen on cycling or walking.

“The Tarka Trail, which runs right alongside us, is such a wonderful benefit and makes The Landings very popular.”

A total of six Bovis Homes colleagues won a Pride in the Job Quality Award across the country this year, the same number as last year and the housebuilder’s highest amount since 2004.

Pride in the Job celebrates the exceptional contribution site managers make in creating homes of outstanding quality. After 12 many months of rigorous judging, these first round winners excelled and will now go on to compete for the Seal of Excellence Awards and Regional Winner titles.

The NHBC Pride in the Job South West region award ceremony for Alan takes place in Bristol on 25th October.

Dave Farley, regional managing director at Bovis Homes, said: "This is a fantastic achievement for Alan and his team and one that is so well-deserved.

“Alan is a local man who loves the area and brings pride to his work and that is reflected in the great relationship the team enjoys with customers at The Landings. We wish Alan the very best for the next stage of the awards.”
