Bovis Homes and Taylor Wimpey link up for local primary school project

Bovis Homes has teamed up with Taylor Wimpey to deliver a new group teaching space for Browick Road Primary and Nursery School. The additional group teaching space, in a refurbished building in the school grounds, is desperately needed for the popular Ofsted rated Outstanding school to be able to welcome new pupils from the growing community of Wymondham. Bovis Homes, which is creating new homes at nearby Birch Gate, were pleased to provide their support when the school acquired a now unoccupied residential building in their school grounds and received planning permission to change its use for education. The building needed a complete refurbishment, including removal of walls and cupboards, to redecoration of the rooms and the woodwork. Bovis Homes enlisted the help of Taylor Wimpey, which is also delivering new homes in Wymondham at The Alders at Birch Gate, to make the space a usable and enjoyable place for children to learn. Chris Baldry, area build manager for Vistry Eastern who led the project, said: “It was a big project, with the building needing a lot of work. We started in March with the initial stripping out of the building, to then enable an electrical team to come in and make good of all the electrics and Wi-Fi connections. We then needed to work through the plumbing, change windows and doors, knock down walls, board the ceilings, replace wash basins, fit new toilets, and then re decorate the whole space. It was quite a long list of activity to complete to get the building to its new usable space! “We were absolutely delighted to be able to support the school with the works and it’s been an absolute pleasure to see our team work so hard to get the work done. It’s also been great to work with the Taylor Wimpey team to split our workloads between our day-to-day job of construction at our respective developments and ensuring we deliver the project on time ready for the pupils to enjoy.” Julie Pearce, regional apprenticeship manager for Taylor Wimpey East Anglia, said: “As soon as we heard about this project, we knew we had to get involved. It is so important to us that we support the schools closest to us and we had a fantastic working partnership with Bovis Homes throughout. “Upon hearing of the project, I thought this would be the perfect opportunity for our apprentices to really shine. At the time, Aaron Forder had been with us as a trainee assistant site manager, and he stepped up to work closely with Chris Baldry throughout the duration of the works. The final result is incredible and we’re very proud of the work that Aaron and the wider teams have put in.” Pauline McMullan, headteacher at Browick Road Primary School, said: “We cannot thank Bovis Homes and Taylor Wimpey enough for supporting us with this project. The Covid-19 pandemic has really highlighted the importance of space when it comes to providing a safe and welcoming environment for the children. This additional group teaching space was so desperately needed as our classes are over-subscribed due to the popularity of the school for the growing community of Wymondham. All the staff and pupils are absolutely delighted with the new teaching space and we can’t wait to get in and make the most of it!”
