A local housebuilder has stepped in to help an Oxfordshire church carry out some urgent repair work to its 13th Century building.

Bovis Homes has donated £1,000 to St Andrew’s Church in Chinnor, which urgently requires funding to carry out repairs to its external stonework.

“St Andrew’s Church plays a pivotal role within the local community, with a wide variety of Chinnor residents benefiting from the events it hosts and organises throughout the year,” says Hollie Lockhart, Bovis Homes regional marketing manager.

“The church is a beautiful building and we are delighted to support its fundraising efforts to help the charity meet the costs of its essential repair works.”

Parts of St Andrew’s Church date back to the early 13th Century, with the bulk of the nave and tower completed at the end of the century. The north and south bays at the west end and the chancel are of 14th Century origin with some modifications carried out in the 19th Century.

Reverend Maggie Thorne, Rector of Chinnor, said: “We are delighted to have the support of Bovis Homes and are thrilled to have received a generous donation from them. The church is facing expensive major repair works and we will be relying on grants and donations such as this to achieve our aim of ensuring that the church is well-maintained for the generations to come.”

Bovis Homes recently joined the local community with its popular Chiltern View location, offering a selection of two, three, four and five-bedroom 21st Century properties.

“We are delighted to have joined the wonderful Chinnor community,” says Hollie. “It’s a lovely town which we’re pleased to be part of. We have been lucky to have already met a wide range of people from local groups, clubs and organisations.

“We welcomed many local residents, including teachers and students from Mill Lane Primary School at our special launch event recently and we have been working with representatives from the village hall supporting its kitchen refurbishment project. We have also worked with parish councillors to install a defibrillator at the railway station and we were given the opportunity to support the recent ‘Thank You’ movement and donated to the Royal British Legion for its silent soldiers, which were positioned around the town.

“On top of all that we’re also sponsoring the Chinnor Youth Football Club and as our Chiltern View location progresses, we’re looking forward to meeting more members of the local community and continuing our support of the town.”

The sales centre and two show homes at Chiltern View are open Thursday to Monday, 10am until 5pm. You can call the team on 01865 703015. Visit www.bovishomes.co.uk to find out more.
