Bovis Homes help tackle community challenge

- 27 Apr 15

Builders have teamed up with local residents to give a fantastic facelift to a Great Barr community centre.

Coleshill-based Bovis Homes have been creating a new part of the community at Nether Hall Park and were happy to help out when an SOS call came from local councillor Adrian Andrew about the state of nearby Pheasey Park Farm Community Centre.

The grounds surrounding the community centre were looking rundown, with Japanese knotweed taking over the car park, and the garden areas were looking a little barren

"As a business we are always looking to put something back into the communities in which we build, in addition to the new homes we are delivering," said Bovis Homes Central region Technical Director Daniel Oliver.

"At Great Barr we have been in close consultation with Councillor Andrew from day one and have worked with him from the outset to ensure that Nether Hall Park is integrated into the Great Barr community and vice versa.

"He recently took us on a tour of Pheasey Park Farm, introduced us to the hard-working local people who keep it going and explained the issues that there are in running an independent community centre like this.

"When he asked whether there was anything we could do to help, we were happy to roll up our sleeves and get stuck in; I'd say it was a Challenge Anneka-style endeavour, but that might date me!"

The Nether Hall Park team funded the refurbishment and arranged for Jack Moody Ltd the landscape contractors to go to work on landscaping the area, planting new shrubs and tackling the dreaded knotweed.

Councillor Andrew said of the results: "I want to thank Bovis Homes and Jack Moody for their excellent work at Pheasey Park Farm Community Centre.  We are committed to working with all community groups and other partners to make sure our area is a success.  This community investment from Bovis Homes is very welcomed and appreciated."
