Bovis Homes helps Worcestershire couple realise dream to own a brand new property

For Phil Nicholson, the benefits of finally owning a new-build house are clear - and really hit home on weekends and Bank Holidays when he can hang up his tool belt and enjoy his beloved Worcestershire surroundings with wife Sarah.

The couple had dreamed of owning a brand new home for 26 years and were finally able to fulfil their wish, thanks to Bovis Homes.

Phil and Sarah, both aged 51, have lived in older houses since they were married in 1989. They started married life in a two bed terrace, then moved to a three bed end-terrace in 1990 and then into a four bed detached house, where they lived from 1996. All of their previous properties were around 10 years old when they bought them; but they always hankered after making the move into a new-build home.

Phil explains: "I have an innate dislike for DIY! When buying an older home, there are often lots of DIY jobs that need doing regularly and cost money. I would much rather let someone else do it, or better still, not have any to do in the first place!"

After spending years looking around new housing developments for their dream home, during one such visit, Becky from their local Bovis Homes' office showed them around a show home and the couple fell in love with the style and quality. They were convinced they couldn't afford the four-bed detached house they had their eye on. However, after talking through their options with Becky, it became clear that they really could make the move, much to their shock and delight!

The key that unlocked the door to the move - and another benefit of buying new - was Bovis Homes' own Home Exchange Scheme. The couple moved to Worcestershire from London in 1988 and fell in love with the area, and were always hopeful that one day they could buy a brand new home in the county.

Phil said: "We absolutely loved the house when we saw the plans for it, but the kitchen diner was what really sold it for us. Sarah just fell in love with it. It's an ultra-modern, lovely area that suits our social occasions perfectly."

The whole process took around five months in total, from reserving the plot to moving in. Phil added: "We couldn't believe how quickly Bovis Homes turned everything around. It was so straightforward and stress-free. We had a bottle of champagne to celebrate the night we moved in. We're absolutely delighted with our new home and we're still pinching ourselves now!"

The couple share the house with their two children, Matthew, aged 24 and Zoe, aged 22, as well as their two springer spaniels Meg and Gem.
