A Cheshire housebuilder, who has just received a special award from the Ministry of Defence for its support of the Armed Forces, has handed over a donation to The Royal British Legion to help commemorate the 80th anniversary of the outbreak of World War II.

Bovis Homes has donated £450 to The Legion, which was accepted by Ms Lee Allen, Chair of the Haslington branch of the charity.

Elaine Cartwright, Bovis Homes regional sales and marketing director, said: “As long-time supporters of the Armed Forces, it was important for us to support this great organisation and show our respects to all those who made sacrifices for our country 80 years ago and those that continue to do so today.

“Bovis Homes has just become the first housebuilder to be awarded with the Government’s Defence Employer Recognition Gold Award - the highest award from the Ministry of Defence for supporting armed forces personnel. So, it is especially fitting for us to support The Royal British Legion.

“This coming weekend, a special commemorative event is taking place in the village of Haslington, marking the 80th anniversary while also fundraising for The Legion. We wish the event every success.”

The Royal British Legion help members of the Royal Navy, British Army, Royal Air Force, veterans and their families.

The commemorative weekend in Haslington will see various activities take place from Friday, 6th to Sunday, 8th September, all fundraising for The Royal British Legion. To find out more, visit the event’s Facebook page.
