Building career plans with Bovis Homes

Students at a Tamworth school have been finding out about the vast array of jobs available within the construction industry from one of the UK's leading house builders at a recent careers fair.

Bovis Homes' employees spoke to students aged from 11 to 18-years-old at Polesworth School about the variety of careers within the housing industry, which range from finance, build technology and engineering to sales, marketing and design.

"Bovis Homes has kindly supported all of our careers fairs. The four representatives talked enthusiastically to our students about their professional roles and about the enormous range of different jobs in the industry," says Chris Davis, Careers Adviser at the School. "The students have been talking positively about the fair and it does have a motivational impact on raising aspirations. Bovis Homes have also offered quality work experience placements for our students.

"We appreciate Bovis Homes' support and by visiting our school, there may well be some students thinking now of career opportunities in the housing industry."

The event was open to all of the students in the school and aimed to help educate them about the diverse range of jobs an employer can offer, provide them with the opportunity to find out more about the different roles and discover what employers look for in suitable applicants.

Tim Evans, West Midlands Technical Manager for Bovis Homes, said: "It was extremely enjoyable and rewarding to once again support Polesworth School careers fair. The many students that I talked to showed a real interest in what Bovis Homes could offer to them as a future profession. I look forward to one day seeing some of the enthusiastic and energetic pupils that I met at the fair around our business!"

As well as offering work placements and trainee positions, Bovis Homes, which has its West Midlands regional headquarters in Coleshill, has taken on more than 100 apprentices over the last few years, in both trade and office-based jobs.

"The UK house building industry is one of the most important sectors in the country and is rapidly expanding. There's always going to be a need for new housing and by recruiting young people we can help to meet the skills shortage within the industry," says Tim.
