Care home garden gets a makeover thanks to local school and housebuilder

- 26 Jun 19

A local housebuilder has joined forces with St John’s Primary Academy to help with the creation of a sensory garden at a residential care home as part of Essington in Bloom.

Representatives from Bovis Homes joined pupils to help with the planting of the new garden at Cherry Tree Court after donating £800 to the project.

“We are delighted to have been given the opportunity to be involved in Essington in Bloom,” says regional marketing manager, Louise Macrae. “It’s a great initiative, which not only brightens up the village, but also brings the community together.

“The sensory garden is looking wonderful and it has been a fantastic project for the school children to get involved in. We really enjoyed our time helping with the planting and we cannot wait to see the finished thing!”

Year six pupils from the school have been regularly visiting the care home and meeting with residents to share ideas about the new garden and see it progressing.

The new garden will include a decking area for residents to enjoy during the summer, as well as numerous planters filled with shrubs, which will help to stimulate senses.

Teacher Jade Brown said: “The children have thoroughly enjoyed getting involved in the project over the past weeks and have really embraced the opportunity to bring the community together. They’ve taken a strong interest in supporting the residents of Cherry Tree Court, alongside those who live and work in Essington. The sensory garden is really starting to take shape and the children are incredibly proud of their efforts to make the area both enjoyable and relaxing for the residents.”

Bovis Homes has recently joined the Essington community with its new location, The Steadings. Situated off Hobnock Road, the location offers a range of three, four and five-bedroom homes.

The brand-new development recently launched two new show homes, which have proved popular with interested buyers.
