A Somerset church garden will be blooming this spring thanks to support from a local housebuilder.

Bovis Homes has given £200 to St Mary Magdalene Church in Wookey Hole to help transform its outside space into a community garden.

“The idea of having an outdoor space in the village suitable for meeting, relaxing, playing, picnicking and reflecting has been around for many years,” says Julia Scarth, community garden coordinator. “Thanks to lots of support and encouragement from the people of Wookey Hole, the Church, the Parish Council and firms such as Bovis Homes, the idea is now becoming a reality.”

The garden has undergone major tree surgery to open up the area, creating space and light. It has been filled with 5,000 bulbs, planted by volunteers, which will make a big impact in the coming months. In addition to this, there are plans to implement ramped access into the garden from the road, new seating areas, a play space and further colourful planting.

“We are delighted to support the community garden and we’re looking forward to seeing it come alive as the flowers start to come out,” says Bovis Homes regional sales and marketing director, Emma Smith. “It’s shaping up to become a wonderful space which will benefit the whole of the community – and we are really pleased to have been given the opportunity to help the garden come to fruition for residents to enjoy.”

Bovis Homes has recently joined the local community with its Priory Fields location, situated between Wookey Hole and Wells.

“Priory Fields is surrounded by glorious scenery and will bring a range of stylish two, three and four-bedroom homes to the area,” says Emma. “We’re looking forward to welcoming the first residents later this year and seeing the neighbourhood flourish.”

The sales centre and show home at Priory Fields are open Thursday to Monday, 10am until 5pm. To find out more about Bovis Homes, visit www.bovishomes.co.uk.
