Colleagues take on the Malvern Hills Challenge

- 28 Sep 17

As an award-winning supporter of the UK Armed Forces, local house builder Bovis Homes is proud to have sponsored a Worcestershire event that raised thousands for Help for Heroes.

The Malvern Hills Challenge saw teams, families and individuals brave some extreme weather to walk routes of 15km or 7km across the beauty spot, helping to raise funds for the charity which supports ill and injured service personnel.

As well as entering its own team, which raised over £400 for this great cause, Bovis Homes also made a donation to provide the medals for participants.

Gordon Waddell, Help for Heroes' local volunteer co-ordinator for Malvern, said: "This year's Malvern Hills Challenge has been an outstanding success. Well over 400 people took part and the event has so far raised in excess of £11,000 with some sponsorship still coming in

"We are exceedingly grateful for the support we received from Bovis Homes both in terms of corporate sponsorship and individual participation. It really was an outstanding effort, which contributed significantly to the success of the event, and we would be very pleased to see the company involved next year."

"The Malvern Hills Challenge is a fantastic event," says regional marketing manager, Stephanie Spry. "We were delighted to have been given the opportunity to be involved with it and we are very proud of our connection with the military."

Bovis Homes was recognised this month for its support of UK Armed Forces personnel with the Silver Award from the Armed Forces Covenant Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS), which is presented to organisations that promote service issues, communicate positively to their staff on the Forces, and support the employment of military people.

A team of seven from Bovis Homes took part in the challenge and walked 15km across the Malverns in seven hours.

Claire Webb, HR business partner at Bovis Homes, was part of the team. She says: "The walk was very challenging, although it was great fun! It's a fantastic way to get out and about, bringing families, friends and colleagues together to all help raise money for a super cause.

"The weather was extremely temperamental with sunshine, torrential rain, hailstones and thunder! We all kept each other going and are very proud to have finished this, raising money for Help for Heroes."

As well as promoting service issues and supporting the employment of military personnel, Bovis Homes also offers a discount scheme for the Armed Forces, which offers a simple and affordable buying solution for service members of the UK Forces.
