Coming together as a community in true DIY SOS-style
- 10 Feb 21
Bovis Homes will be donating materials, along with other members of the community, to help a local cause in true DIY SOS-style. A property in Traly Close, Bude was destroyed after a gas explosion on 20th January. Fortunately, Alan and Josie Cornish, along with their son, Darren, managed to escape the blast with only minor injuries, however the family did not have adequate insurance to cover the re-build. Organised by Ian French, the local community has rallied round and has already received commitments from Bradfords, Travis Perkins, Plumbase and Dulux, as well as over 60 offers of help from local tradesmen – from plasterers and electricians to plumbers and general builders. Colin Dan, site manager at Shorelands in Bude has been coordinating the Bovis Homes donation and liaising with the organisers. Bovis Homes’ managing director, Paul Moran, commented: “It has obviously been a very difficult and upsetting time for the Cornish family and we are pleased and proud to be working with the local community to support them. Bovis Homes will be donating some bricks and blocks as materials towards the re-build project. “We are building new homes in Bude and a number of our staff live locally, so it’s amazing to see everyone come together like this – it’s what community is all about.” Ian French, organiser, commented: “A crowd fundraising page has also been set up by someone to cover the replacement of their belongings which is already over £8,800 and we have a Facebook group to manage the offers of help and materials. “It’s such a tragic situation but to see how everyone has offered their help so quickly is just wonderful. We’re hoping to complete the re-build in approximately six months and the family are living in a comfortable caravan while the work takes place.” For details on the project and how you can help visit www.gofundme.com/lets-help-the-cornishs-after-the-gas-explosion and for information on Bovis Homes visit www.bovishomes.co.uk
