Communities to benefit as national housebuilder agrees major joint venture with regional housing association

A £200 million joint venture between a national housebuilder and a leading south west housing association will lead to nearly 700 new-build homes in Devon.

Bovis Homes and LiveWest have partnered to deliver 678 homes near Alphington, with 203 of those to be designated as affordable for development on behalf of LiveWest.

The partnership is part of the first phase of a new 2,500-home community between Alphington and Exminster.

Bovis Homes and LiveWest are already long-term partners in the region, working together on the first phase of The Tors, in Tavistock - an 800 home extension to the location.

John Lougher, Bovis Homes strategic land managing director, said: “We are delighted to add to our successful working relationship with LiveWest.

“This is a major project that’s set to benefit Alphington and Exminster, boosting the local economy, creating jobs and offering opportunities for local people and home hunters keen to move to the area.”

Affordable and intermediate housing will comprise around 30 per cent of the first phase of the location. There will be more than 100 grant-funded intermediate homes, available for shared ownership or affordable and social rent.

The location’s homes will include a range of one and two-bedroom apartments and two, three and four-bedroom houses. They are set to be delivered over the next seven years.

Russell Baldwinson, executive director of development at LiveWest, said: “Having worked with Bovis Homes before, we know the housebuilder is the right partner for these properties in Exeter.

“We are delighted that our involvement has significantly increased the level of affordable housing being delivered through this scheme. This positive contribution will make accessing a new affordable home a more realistic proposition for local people who would like to live in the area.”

Situated close to the M5, the new location forms a major part of Teignbridge District Council’s housing delivery strategy.

More than £35 million worth of civil infrastructure will be built, including roads and bridges. Also, a retail centre, community hub, school, nursery, and £15 million of community contributions.

Work on infrastructure is expected to start this summer and on the new homes later this year.
