Community's major cash boost as homes plan gets green light

Bovis Homes will be investing more than £20 million into the local community after receiving outline planning consent for the largest single development ever approved by Teignmouth District Council.
The leading housebuilder has also pledged to work closely with local residents and organisations as it starts to deliver the 1,350- homes and associated infrastructure on land between Matford and Exminster.
The milestone has been reached after several years of close collaboration between Bovis Homes, the Parish, District and County Councils, national and local organisations and members of the public, to ensure the plans will create a sustainable new part of the community.

The new development will offer a variety of properties, ranging from one-bedroom apartments to five-bedroom family homes, including an element of custom-build, as well as shops, sports facilities and attractive landscaped areas of public open space.

Councillor Humphrey Clemens, Teignbridge's Executive Member for Housing and Planning, said: "We are absolutely delighted that Teignbridge's Planning Committee resolved to approve the planning application for 1350 new homes to the South West of Exeter on 17 January 2017.

"This significant development is our biggest application ever, which will go a long way to provide much needed homes for hard working local families. Building on our trail blazing work for custom and self-build, it's great to see that there could be as many as 60 custom / self-build plots here too.

"This flagship development will provide at least £20m in Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) payments, which will be used to bring forward many benefits for the community including a new health centre, green space, sport and community buildings. 25% of the CIL money will go to Exminster Parish Council to help pay for community facilities as prioritised in their Neighbourhood Plan."

As well as the money provided for the Parish Council, further CIL money will be spent by the District and County Councils on the provision of services and infrastructure.
Bovis Homes, who also have developments in Exminster, and nearby Cranbrook and Dawlish, will submit a reserved matters application - containing the detail of the scheme - later this year.
