Creative key worker couple praise community feel at Bedfordshire new-build location

- 08 Jun 21

House hunting locally in Lower Stondon, Megan and Gareth purchased their new-build home in the village and have praised the community feel the location offers. The pair, and their two children Dylan, 4 and Alys, 2, have lived at the Stondon Park development for just under 18 months and have settled into the neighbourhood well. Megan, a clinical photography manager for the NHS, said: “Our neighbours are so lovely. When the first lockdown was partially lifted, we had a few socially distanced street parties over the summer and met everyone. It’s been good to hear their experiences and see what they’ve done to personalise their homes.” Megan, originally from Rossendale in Lancashire and Gareth, from Stopsley, previously rented in nearby Hitchin but found Lower Stondon more affordable and originally bought a three-bedroom family home there. “We previously lived on the other side of the village and when we fell pregnant with Alys we knew we needed a bigger home for our family of four,” Megan added. “Lower Stondon is an up and coming area so we knew a larger family home here would be a good investment and a good fit for us. “The village is fairly small but there are a few local amenities. We have the golf club, which our home overlooks, with a nice clubhouse, there is a microbrewery in the centre of the village and a few local shops. I’m hoping we might get a café soon! We also have practical things such as a petrol station, doctor’s surgery, pharmacy, and post office, along with two good primary schools.” The couple opted for a new-build property for convenience and were impressed with the space and layout Bovis Homes’ five-bedroom Arundel house type had to offer. “We toyed with the idea of a project but working full-time with two children, we decided a new-build was a more practical and realistic option,” Megan said. “We love the family kitchen/dining space – it’s a large room with plenty of room for large family gatherings post-lockdown. We’ve used the fifth bedroom as our office space, wanting to make the best use of the beautiful view from the bedroom and it’s good to have that separation – we’ve been much more productive!” Megan and Gareth, who also works for the NHS, spend their free time working on creative projects. Gareth spends his evenings and weekends doing freelance graphic design for his company Bluebell Creative while Megan has been honing her photography skills by documenting her interiors journey on Instagram via @mybovishome. Megan added: “Documenting our home journey has been a real escape for me and has definitely kept me sane during lockdown. The interaction with other Instagram users is so lovely and I’ve had some great support, as well making some really good friends, chatting about interiors and new-builds. There’s so much good advice to be gained from other new-build purchasers and Bovis Home owners on Instagram. “There are some accounts that I’m absolutely in love with and have such adoration for their homes, such as @style.less.home, @lustliving and @the.home.affair." Coming to Shefford soon, Bovis Homes’ Hillfoot Fields is located two and a half miles from Lower Stondon via the A600 and Hitchin Road.
