Cricket club secures backing from local housebuilder

- 09 Jun 21

Players at Longstanton Grasshoppers Cricket Club are sporting fresh new kits this season as part of a £900 sponsorship deal with a local housebuilder. Vistry East Midlands, which is building nearby at two developments in Northstowe, has teamed up with the club to provide new gear for the first and second team squads. The new shirts have been emblazoned with the developer’s logo on the back, while a Vistry East Midlands banner has been erected at the club’s home ground at Longstanton Recreation Ground, off Over Road. Longstanton Grasshoppers Cricket Club has six teams for players of various ages and abilities. Its first and second teams play in the Cambridgeshire Cricket Association League. Wayne Markillie, Second XI Captain at Longstanton Grasshoppers Cricket Club, said: “We are very grateful to Vistry East Midlands for their kind contribution, which will go a long way in enabling us to continue providing high-quality facilities for our loyal cricketers. “The financial impact of the pandemic and the lack of games over the past year has meant the club is even more reliant on local businesses and sponsors than usual, so this partnership couldn’t have come at a better time. “We are looking forward to playing in our new kit and hope to continue welcoming new ‘hoppers’ to our friendly club.” Nic Chapman, sales and marketing director for Vistry East Midlands, said: “We are proud to be joining forces with Longstanton Grasshoppers Cricket Club, which plays an important role in the life of the local community. “We hope the new kit serves the players well and wish the club every success for the future, both on and off the field.” Vistry East Midlands – part of Vistry Group which includes Bovis Homes, Linden Homes and Vistry Partnerships – has two developments in Northstowe, both of which are around a mile from the cricket ground. Bovis Homes at Northstowe, off Links Lane, is a development of two to five-bedroom homes, with prices currently starting from £234,995. The Boulevards by Linden Homes, off Stirling Road, features a selection of two, three, four and five-bedroom houses for sale, with prices starting from £285,000.
