Doors open for local bowls club thanks to home builder's contribution

A local home builder was pleased to reconnect with a Gloucestershire bowls club after almost 20 years, to help raise funds to make improvements to their clubhouse.

Bovis Homes contributed £500 to help Pineholt Bowls Club install new emergency doors at the club’s home in Hucclecote, which was originally constructed by the house builder nearly two decades ago.

“We are delighted to support Pineholt Bowls Club,” says regional marketing manager, Stephanie Spry. “The clubhouse is a great asset for Hucclecote and Coopers Edge, so we were only too happy to contribute towards the new doors.

“Bovis Homes has been a part of this community for many years, and it’s been wonderful to watch Coopers Edge flourish and become a vibrant new Gloucestershire neighbourhood.”

Pineholt Bowls Club has been going for over 80 years, beginning as the Gloster Aircraft Company Bowls Club and changing its name after the aircraft manufacturer folded in the 1960s. A new clubhouse and green were constructed in 1999 by Bovis Homes, providing the members with a modern facility. The building has grown over the years, with an extension to the main room and the addition of changing rooms.

Mark Savagar, President at Pineholt Bowls Club, said: “We are very grateful for the assistance that Bovis Homes gave us towards the purchase of new doors for the clubhouse. The remainder of the money was raised by member contributions and events.

“We are a thriving club close to Coopers Edge and we are attracting more and more people who have moved into this area. New members are always welcome, and we conduct social events during the winter. Potential new members can contact us through our website and they will be made very welcome.”
