Dream Devon move for sea-loving couple

- 10 Nov 16

Since leaving the Royal Navy, Lilian and Kevin Ward had wanted to move closer to the coast - and when they saw Bovis Homes' Marine Drive location in Teignmouth, they knew they had found the perfect home.

After years of dreaming about living by the sea, Lilian and Kevin were finally able to make it a reality and sell up their home in Leicestershire and move to Devon. The timing was perfect; their two sons had moved out and they had both now retired.

The couple put their house on the market, but after months of struggling to sell, they came across Bovis Homes' special part exchange scheme.

The advantages to us included a guaranteed purchaser, a reasonable financial offer on our property, additional incentives and a choice of fixtures and fittings, said Lilian.

We visited the show home at Marine Drive, 'The Beaufort', when it was just a shell, and although it was a rainy, dismal day and it was nowhere near finished, we could immediately feel the 'wow' factor, said Lilian. We immediately put the wheels into motion with the sales advisor, David, who couldn't have been more helpful.

The Wards' Leicestershire house was marketed and sold within four weeks using the Home Exchange scheme, which takes the stress, hassle and frustration out of selling your own property. Bovis Homes will arrange for at least two local estate agents to value the house and will cover the costly estate agent's fees. On top of this, the buyer can stay in their existing house until their new home is ready.

David recommended local solicitors, who turned out to be the most competitive once the couple had researched other firms.

The conveyancing firm had completed on several other Home Exchange properties and were experts in the process, explained Kevin. We felt like everything was in control throughout.

With sea views across the Teign estuary, the five-bedroom, three-storey home which the Wards had selected was perfectly designed to take full advantage of the impressive outlook.

The Beaufort has an open-plan kitchen and dining area with bi-fold doors to a balcony and French doors leading out into the rear garden. The characteristic separate sitting room includes a wood burner and a second balcony with bi-fold doors. Two of the bedrooms have en suites and fitted wardrobes and there is a separate utility and double garage.

David provided us with weekly progress reports and photos of our plot and offered us excellent customer service throughout the whole experience, says Kevin. From start to finish he has been fantastic and still keeps in touch now.

He was able to help us with our choice of kitchen cabinets, tiles, carpets and any changes to the standard specification, and we are very pleased with our selections now that we have moved in. David's attention to detail is exceptional and he went out of his way to answer our many queries, Lilian says.

A Lilian and Kevin were also impressed with the approach of Dan, the site manager, when it came to dealing with any remedial issues that needed dealing with as the couple settled into their new home.

It's been a pleasure to see Dan's creative and innovative approach to problems and his 'can-do' attitude is very much appreciated, says Lilian.

Situated on the outskirts of Teignmouth, Marine Drive is only minutes away from the town centre and the seafront, allowing the Wards to enjoy their new life by the coast.

We are extremely pleased with our Bovis Homes experience and our new home by the sea, says Lilian.
