Dream Littlehampton move for builder happy to work from home!

- 22 Aug 17

When Shaun Purdie was offered a job by a contractor working on Bovis Homes' Hampton Park location, he didn't think that he would become part of the team that built his own house!

But after looking around this new part of the Littlehampton community with wife Rachel, they realised that it would be the perfect place to call home.

The Cheshire couple had always wanted to relocate to West Sussex to be closer to family, and when Shaun's brother offered him a position with his building firm, who are working on Bovis Homes' Littlehampton and Worthing developments, the couple's dream could finally become a reality.

"Shaun's family live in Worthing and we have always wanted to live by the sea." says Rachel, a training and accounts manager for a software firm. "We didn't think we could make the move with the difference in house prices, but when Shaun's brother, Paul, offered him a manager's position, we just thought, 'Why not? Let's just go for it!'"

With Shaun having started his new job last month and Rachel staying in their home in Cheshire, the couple were keen to start their home search. They hadn't originally considered moving from their 115-year-old house into a new-build, but when they had a look around Shaun's new workplace, they found their perfect new home.

"When I was down visiting one weekend, Shaun said, 'Let's have a drive around the sites where I work, so you can imagine where I am when we speak on the phone,'" Rachel says. "So we had a drive around the developments and we really liked them - they were really spacious and open.

"We decided to have a look at the show home at Bovis Homes' Saxons Plain location and really liked a town house there. We then drove over to Hampton Park and we completely fell in love with the Southwold house type. We went out for some lunch and we couldn't stop thinking about it so I said to Shaun, 'Let's go back and have another look.'"

The couple returned to Hampton Park to find out more about the homes and discuss details with Donna, the sales advisor.

"Donna was absolutely lovely. She made us feel really comfortable and I can't praise her enough. We started looking at what plots were available and everything just seemed to be right. The deal-clincher for me was having a south-facing garden and we found the perfect plot.

"Once we started looking at the details, everything about it put a tick in the box - even things such as having the kitchen on the right-hand side of the house just felt right to me. I had a list of questions and it was tick, tick, tick!"

Shaun and Rachel selected the three-bedroom Southwold, which has an open-plan living area and kitchen downstairs, and includes an en suite and built-in wardrobe to the master bedroom.

"I love that it is all open-plan. It means that I don't need to be shut away in the kitchen when I'm cooking and it will work really well when we have people visiting," says Rachel, who, along with Shaun and their Labradors, Cassie and Lubo, is due to move into their new Bovis Home later this year.

"Shaun keeps sending me photos of the house at different stages, which is lovely," says Rachel. "We can't wait to move in - there's this lovely open green space in the middle of the development, which is perfect for me to take our older dog, Cassie, as she can't walk very far. People have also already started talking about holding community days there. It's going to be great!"
