A former finance apprentice turned manager at a national housebuilder has praised her Maidstone new-build property for its space and layout as she appreciates time at home during the Coronavirus pandemic.

Hollie May, 26, recently moved to Bovis Homes’ Catkin Gardens, in Headcorn, with husband Jack and two-year-old golden cocker spaniel, Archie, who loves the green open space at the location.

The treasury manager, who joined Bovis Homes – part of the newly-formed Vistry Group – soon after leaving school, nine years ago, said walking Archie for 30 minutes was light relief from her busy work schedule.

Hollie said: “Being able to spend time in the house we just bought is a bonus and I like to be around for Archie. Another perk is the tea-round is not so big from home!

“Luckily, Jack has been at home for a few weeks, so Archie is getting plenty of attention. He definitely loves having the two of us home, especially as Jack is away with work in the week most of the time!

“Archie loves tennis balls and he has a gorilla we recently bought him that makes sounds. He’s also keen on slippers, he always manages to find a shoe to lay in bed with! He is so daft but very clever! He can roll over, high five and even play dead!

“Archie loves being rewarded with treats and always has to be part of what is going on, even if we’re just making a cup of tea! The open layout of the house, and the back garden, is perfect for him!

“We have a field just across from the house, which backs onto more fields. Archie loves it there. When Catkin Gardens is finished, there will be a pond area, so I’m sure he will love that too!”

Hollie and Jack, also 26, added moving into their three-bedroom new-build home was the right decision and they loved choosing their own décor.

“We chose a new-build because we wanted a house to make our own, it’s easier with a new-build because you start with a blank canvas,” Hollie said.

“You move in and can make the house your own with minimal costs. If you buy a home that’s already been lived in, it can cost a lot to redecorate. Having a decent size garden is such a bonus for us all too!”

After completing her apprenticeship and gaining her National Vocational Qualifications, Hollie progressed to accounts assistant, cashier, treasury supervisor and then into her current role.

She said working in the Finance team and managing the group’s payments, banking and cashflow was challenging but fun and she was making the most of her new work environment.
