Former forklift driver in Chipping Ongar wins major housebuilding award for site excellence

A former forklift driver who worked his way to become a site manager at a national housebuilder, has impressed so much in the role at a Chipping Ongar new-build location that he has now won a major building award for quality.

Nigel Clark, based at Bovis Homes’ Livingstone Gardens, has won the National House Building Council (NHBC)’s Pride in the Job Quality Award, after being selected from more than 16,000 site managers across the UK.

Not only that, but Nigel is now targeting an even more senior build role in the industry, as he is in training to become an area build manager after 15 years at the company.

Nigel said: "I’m delighted because it is a big achievement to win such a prestigious award. It feels like the Oscars of the building industry.

"It's not until you realise that you have been shortlisted from over 16,000 sites that you appreciate what your team has achieved.

"I am very proud of what we, as a team, are building and producing for our customers here at Chipping Ongar, there is a lovely community being made."

A total of six Bovis Homes colleagues won a Pride in the Job Quality Award across the country this year, matching last year’s number, which was the housebuilder's highest amount since 2004.

Pride in the Job celebrates the exceptional contribution site managers make in creating homes of outstanding quality. After 12 many months of rigorous judging, these first round winners excelled and will now go on to compete for the Seal of Excellence Awards and Regional Winner titles.

Nigel will now go on to attend the NHBC Pride in the Job London and South East region award ceremony, which takes place in Brighton on 18th October.
