Fremington families compare new-build benefits–and housebuilder’s homes come out on top!

Two families in Fremington have spoken of their delight at moving into new-build homes citing open-plan living and better insulation - with one couple having lived in an older property for 18 years!

Both Chriss and John Withecombe and June and Kevin Danks have moved into four-bedroom
properties at Bovis Homes’ Water’s Edge location, off Barracks Road.

Retirees Chriss and John, a rugby enthusiast, who have lived in North Devon for 44 years, love their large bedroom, plus their snug downstairs which they use as a study and TV room.

Their 10-year-old Grandson, Rhys, has a bedroom for regular visits and there is also a bedroom for guests, with views over the estuary.

Chriss, who loves walking and cycling on the Tarka Trail by Water’s Edge, said: “We are both now retired but keep ourselves busy and have retained one of the bedrooms as a craft room - which leaves the little snug downstairs as a study/TV room.

“We love our large bedroom with the en suite and built-in wardrobe and still have a spare room for visitors, where they love to gaze out at our gorgeous sunsets across the estuary.

“We were attracted to Water's Edge because of the way the mature trees have been kept, it's a very pretty entrance to the location. It is great that Bovis Homes has put in a pathway directly onto the Tarka Trail, so we can nip down to the Fremington Quay Cafe for tea and cakes in a couple of minutes, without having to get muddy!

“We wanted a new-build as we are now of mature age and were after a property where everything was new and works - we didn't want the hassle of renovating an older property.

This move has been a really positive experience for us. It was quite daunting as we had lived in our previous property for 18 years.

“Our new home is so well insulated, it is extremely warm and we have lower gas bills! We feel that every penny we have invested in the property was a wise decision, as it will only increase in value over the years.

“Water's Edge far exceeds our expectations. We received Christmas cards from various
neighbours as soon as we moved in and there are lovely amenities for children.

“The sales staff have been very helpful and informative. They were brilliant at keeping us updated with developments and we also found the build team, Kim and Chris, extremely friendly and helpful.”

June and Kevin, who moved from the Peak District to live in a coastal community, have their two sons, Neil, who is looking to rent in the area, and Jonathan, a full-time student, living with them.

June, who enjoys photography, said she was attracted to her home’s kitchen and open-plan dining area, plus the layout of Water’s Edge and all the green space.

“My favourite part of the house has to be the kitchen layout with the open plan dining area, which in my opinion, is the heart of the home," she said.

“I love the spacious feel as you enter the room, the clean-cut lines, wide-open space with plenty of opportunity to add an island with seating or a butcher's block. The quality and finish of the kitchen units and integrated appliances definitely add to the overall feel.

“I looked at several other developments in the area but felt that nothing offered me the complete package until I looked at Bovis Homes' Water’s Edge.

“I was drawn to the open space as I drove up to the show home with lots of green, mature trees and paths. The layout and design of the development has been cleverly thought out and is in keeping with the local area, with a good mix of stone and rendering.

“The Bovis Homes team and tradesmen treated us with respect and made us feel valued at all times.”
