Dragon boat rowers in Warwick donned frog outfits and Harry Potter costumes as they competed in aid of local charities - with a housebuilder donating £150 towards the cause.

Bovis Homes-backed Froggy Paddlers team at the Warwick Avon Dragon Boat Festival & Race
Bovis Homes sponsored the Froggy Paddlers team – made up of Birmingham Children's Hospital colleagues and family and friends – in the Warwick Avon Dragon Boat Festival & Race.

This year’s race, at St Nicholas Park, was in support of The Myton Hospices and Birmingham Children’s Hospital and the Froggy Paddlers came ninth out of 26, but second for their outfits.

Stephanie Spry, group campaign marketing manager at Bovis Homes, whose husband Joe and both brother and sister-in-law took part in the competition, said: “It was a close fought race and a huge amount of fun.

“Our children loved the day with all the colourful costumes and excitement on the river. The Harry Potter team definitely deserved to win best dressed - they looked great. The judging panel was made up of children and they were very enthusiastic!

“We’re so happy that such a fun day contributed towards the fantastic work and service provided by The Myton Hospices and Birmingham Children’s Hospital and can’t wait for next year!”

More than 400 rowers took part in the race, organised by the Rotary of Warwick Avon at Warwick Boat Centre, on the River Avon.

There was a barbecue, riverside activities and a drummer to keep families, rowers and friends, entertained.
