Hidden new community provides the perfect home for Devon family

When interior design enthusiast Lucy Beazley discovered the secluded Water's Edge location in Fremington, she knew this would be the perfect place for her family to move to.

Previously living in the small Devon village of Winkleigh, Lucy and her husband Dan had originally thought about moving to the countryside, but also wanted their children to grow up with an active social life, close to amenities and transport links.

“I came across Water’s Edge completely by chance,” says Lucy. “It just seemed to tick all the boxes. Water’s Edge doesn’t feel like a ‘normal’ new-build development. It has a lovely rural feel to it, is very spacious and it’s so secluded that you’d never know it was there from the main road.”

Lucy, an area healthcare lead for a global pharmaceuticals company, discussed making the move with her husband, Dan and their two children, Harry (14) and Gracie (10).

“Dan works in Barnstaple, so the move has given him a shorter commute to work. It’s also better for the kids – moving from such a rural area to somewhere more accessible has given them a much better social life.”

The family selected the four-bedroom Harriet, which was spacious enough for them and their two dogs, cavapoo Lacey and labradoodle Gus, and two cats, Izzy and Isla. Using Bovis Homes’ Home Exchange scheme, the family were able stay in their property until their new one was ready.

“It was such a great feeling knowing we didn’t have to wait for our old home to sell before we could move. Once you’ve got the moving bug, you just want to go!”

Over the past couple of years, Water’s Edge has welcomed many new residents and it is now a flourishing new part of the community.

“The home is in a great position on the development with a generous size garden,” says Lucy. “We back out into a farmers field, with excellent views of the estuary. The kitchen is wonderful – it’s light, airy and big, and the hallway is so spacious – it’s a room in itself which I love!

“I work from home, so an office is a must! The study is my room and I’ve got it just the way I like it – it’s perfect.”

Water’s Edge is surrounded by open countryside and is set overlooking the River Taw.

“Having the Tarka Trail right on our doorstep is wonderful. My children love to walk down there, grab an ice cream and sit by the estuary – it’s Devon at its best!”
