High-flyer Alastair lands Didcot housebuilder job after buying one of their homes

A flight attendant from Didcot was so impressed after buying a new-build home that he swapped career to join the housebuilder that built it!

Alastair Clist, who worked as a cabin crew member for six years, was offered a job with Bovis Homes as a sales advisor in Hadden Hill and, after snapping up the chance, is now hoping to see his career take off.

The 26-year-old former British Airways employee bought a Bovis Home last year, and started his new role at the housebuilder’s Hadden Grove location last month.

Alistair, who lives in Swindon, said: “I absolutely love my house. It’s light and warm, and very good for social occasions.

“There’s nothing better than having friends and family around. I have a lovely walled garden, it’s south facing and a great size. I have a pond too with goldfish and my friends like to jokingly call it Niagara Falls.

“It’s a testament to Bovis Homes that I bought one of their homes and wanted to work for them as a result.”

Alastair, who joined an estate agency aged 18 before joining British Airways in 2012, and going on to head up a team of 22 as senior cabin crew, is hoping that his experience in customer-facing roles will help his career to soar.

He worked on both short and long-haul flights but went back to his first love, the housing industry, to settle down and help others move home.

“It’s interesting being in an office again after all those hours in the sky, but there are many skills you can transfer from one industry to the other,” he said. “I love working with customers and there is nothing more satisfying than helping them to buy the home of their dreams.”

Nicola Goldsmith, regional sales and marketing director at Bovis Homes, said Alastair had a grounded personality and she was sure he would succeed in his role.

“It’s wonderful that Alastair was so pleased with his home that he was encouraged to join us at Bovis Homes,” she said. “He has great experience inside and outside the housebuilding industry and is a great addition to our team.”
