Housebuilder backs Malvern Hills Help for Heroes fundraiser

More than 350 people took on the recent Malvern Hills Challenge to fundraise for Help for Heroes, including five colleagues from one of the event’s sponsors, national housebuilder Bovis Homes.

Bovis Homes donated medals to the challenge, and these were presented to walkers at the finish by the town’s Mayor Cllr Neil Morton and MP Harriet Baldwin. Help for Heroes CEO, Mel Waters, was also in attendance.

Lois Davies, sales advisor at Bovis Homes and event participant, said: “It was a really great experience. Even though our team of five all have different roles within the business, it was wonderful that we came together to represent Bovis Homes.

“We supported each other on this, at times arduous, challenge, to raise money for such a worthwhile cause and to top it off the weather was magnificent. We are all looking forward to doing it again next year!”

Ghulam Hussain, quantity surveyor at Bovis Homes and keen walker, added: “During the Challenge, I really enjoyed the company of my colleagues. The team spirit and camaraderie kept us going as we waited for one another to catch up on the steeper climbs eventually finishing as one team.

“The last hill of the Challenge, although not the steepest or the hardest to climb, was extremely difficult as we all tried to find that last bit of energy to complete it. Thoughts of aiding a worthy cause gave us that extra boost.

“As tired as I was when I crossed the finish line, thoughts of next year’s Challenge were already on my mind!”

Upon completing the challenge, one of the event organisers, Tony Potter, said: “We had a fantastic day, with over 350 people walking the hills in perfect weather conditions.

“I have worked with Bovis Homes for a few years now, and it was really great to see a Bovis Homes team on the hills again, supporting the Help for Heroes charity and its beneficiaries. The stunning medals provided by the organisation are now seen as collector items by those that took part too, which is wonderful!

“Without the support of our sponsors, this event would not be possible, so I would like to sincerely thank Bovis Homes for their ongoing support and I very much hope I will be working and walking with the Bovis Homes team again in 2020.

“The whole team, and in fact all participants on the day, should be very proud of what they achieved; it was a tough walk for a worthy cause!”

The Challenge consisted of a short and a long route, with the long route covering an impressive 18km over 16 hills and 3,000 feet in elevation.

Bovis Homes colleagues who entered the event included Lois Davies, Jamie Abbott, Sam Martin and Steve Andrews from the Western region alongside Ghulam Hussain from the housebuilder’s West Midlands region.
