Housebuilder hits right note to help Somerset charity get in the groove

Music lovers at a charity near Wells have danced the day away at their first silent disco thanks to support from a Somerset housebuilder.

And visitors at Heads Up, which supports people who are affected by mental illness across the Mendip region, will now be able to get into the groove on a regular basis after a £500 donation by Bovis Homes.

Classical and Rock were among the genres chosen by visitors and carers at the South Horrington day centre as they donned new headphones and put on their dancing shoes for the inaugural event.

Bridget Harvey, service director at Heads Up, said: “This fantastic donation from Bovis Homes has allowed those that use the centre, to get on the dance floor and enjoy their first-ever silent disco here.

“It was a tremendous success - music is wonderful for the mind and soul - and those that took part clearly benefited from listening to their favourite songs in what was a great social event at Heads Up.”

Bridget approached Bovis Homes after hearing about the housebuilder’s community spirit from her friend, Tracey Gould, who is looking to buy a Bovis Homes property at its Priory Fields location in Wells.

Bovis Homes’ donation hit the right note and will also be used towards running costs, dementia classes and more silent discos.

There are 25 volunteers and more than 60 clients, young and old, that use the day centre. It runs five days a week and runs group activities including woodwork, pottery and gardening, to help develop skills and confidence.
