A West Midlands-based designer has beaten off competition from across the country to win an innovation award from leading national house builder Bovis Homes.

David Laight, Design and Planning Director at the company's West Midlands region based in Coleshill, was presented with the accolade at the company's Annual Awards ceremony in Reading. He was chosen from more than 1,100 employees to receive the prize.

David, who lives in Meriden near Coventry with his two sons Arthur and George and partner Theresa (who also works for the company), has been with Bovis Homes for almost 20 years.

In recent months he has played a key role in refining the company's processes for taking sites from planning and design through to the beginning of construction. This includes graphically profiling the local area, and amenities like shops and pubs, as well as introducing new technologies, such as aerial drone filming, to the process.

David says: "I'm delighted to accept this award and could not have achieved it without the help of the rest of the Technical team at Coleshill.

"We've really tried to focus on getting under the skin of our new sites and looked to employ new methods and technologies to do this. Our aim was to make the process more engaging for the wider team and to help those taking the construction forward to really understand their new site in greater depth.

"We're always keen to find ways to improve and innovate and we're looking forward to continuing this over the year ahead."

Discussing David's accolade, Bovis Homes' Head of Talent, Roger Morton, said: "David's interactive approach to his role and his proactive collaboration with local stakeholders have brought huge benefits to the pre-start and site-start processes on our West Midlands sites, and these innovations have now been expanded to sites in other regions across the country.
"His passion and pride in his work have also empowered and motivated his team to go the extra mile and made the technical handover process much more engaging."

The Bovis Homes Annual Awards are an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of individuals within the business and are judged by a panel of senior directors. Awards were also given out for the best apprentice and sales advisor, as well as for Health and Safety.
