Assistant site manager Kim Butler has sacrificed her shoulder-length blonde locks for a shaved head just as winter temperatures start to bite - but it's all for a fantastic cause.

Kim has taken part in Macmillan Cancer Support's 'Brave the Shave' fundraising event after the disease had a devastating effect on her family.

Two years ago, her mum Margie died from breast cancer at the age of 73, while last year daughter Shannon underwent a double mastectomy after being diagnosed with the disease aged 24.

Kim, who works at the Bovis Homes development in Fremington, braved the clippers at a local hairdresser's to support Macmillan and the North Devon Hospice who cared for her mum.

She has so far raised £1,065, including £500 from Bovis Homes, towards her target of £1,300.

Her shoulder-length locks have now been donated to the Prince's Trust to make wigs for children undergoing cancer treatment.

"I was very nervous about having my head shaved, but I'm really pleased that I've done it now - I just wish the weather was a little bit warmer!" said Kim.

"Mom was an amazing lady, talented artist, beautiful, gentle and the kindest person I have ever met, and I miss her every day.

"Shannon and two of my aunts have all been affected by breast cancer, but their bravery in the face of such turmoil, uncertainty and pain has been incredible.

"This is just my small way of supporting Macmillan and saying thank-you to the hospice for the superb care and attention they showed to Mom.

"I'd like to say a huge thanks to everyone who has sponsored me - your donations will help make a big difference."

Kim, originally from South Africa, where she owned a construction company, came to the UK in 2000 and joined Bovis Homes this year.
