Military spouse with young daughter praises Bishop’s Cleeve housebuilder for job support

A military spouse who has a young daughter and works at a Bishop’s Cleeve housebuilder has praised her employer for its support.

Hayley Waldron, functional training manager at Bovis Homes, said the housebuilder offers flexibility and encouragement so she can balance her work with being a mum to Chloe, 2, and a wife to husband, Tom, an RAF sergeant who served in Afghanistan and the United Arab Emirates.

Hayley works in the Learning and Development team, responsible for apprentices’ learning journeys within the company and recruits for the housebuilder’s trainee assistant site manager programme – including those with military ties.

“Having a young family, Bovis Homes has supported me during the times my husband has been deployed,” said Hayley, who lives in Upper Hatherley.

“They’ve allowed me to work flexibly, so that I can care for my daughter while he’s away. This has a really positive effect on my role within the company as I oversee our trainee assistant site manager programme.

“Within that programme we have two cohorts every year and in both of those, we are keen to attract ex-service personnel.

“We recognise the experience and the skills that they are able to transfer from the Armed Forces and bring to Bovis Homes.”

Bovis Homes is the first dedicated housebuilder in the industry to receive the highest award from the Ministry of Defence for supporting armed forces personnel.

Earlier this year, the housebuilder received the Government’s Defence Employee Recognition Scheme Gold Award for a raft of initiatives, including providing employment opportunities and helping those connected to the military onto the housing ladder.

There are around 100 employees with ex-military backgrounds within the company, including site managers, technical staff and trainers. The business also offers discount schemes to help servicemen and women buy a home.

Former Royal Engineer, Roger Morton, joined the housebuilder in 2016 following 25 years in the Army. Performance director Roger said: “Hayley makes a wonderful contribution to our Learning and Development team, leading on the recruitment of apprentices and trainees into the company.

“As a business, we are delighted to support her in any way we can, recognising the difficulties of balancing home and work life.

"We welcome former military personnel and enthusiastic people from all backgrounds to look at our apprentice and trainee assistant site manager programmes."

Bovis Homes has nearby locations including Furlong Rise in Prestbury, Oaklands in Hunts Grove and, soon, in Twigworth.
