A former labourer in Bishop’s Stortford, who joined the construction industry from school, is now a site manager at a national housebuilder and is proud to have the responsibility of bringing a brand-new homes collection to the town – with the first show home now launching!

Father-of-two Daren Sparrow works on Bovis Homes’ Stortford Fields location, on Hadham Road, which is launching a three-bedroom detached house, the Spruce, the first show home in the region from the housebuilder’s new range.

Bovis Homes’ new collection, which includes two to five-bedroom homes, are named after British trees and focus on well-proportioned exteriors with a real sense of light and flow on the inside.

Daren, who joined the housebuilder 18 months ago, said: “The new collection has a range of brilliant new homes that are light, spacious and airy.

“So much thought has gone into the design and there have been many enquiries from house buyers, excited to contact our sales team to find out more.

“Now they’ll be able to see our three-bedroom show home, the Spruce, from the collection, for themselves. We’re so proud of the quality of these new homes and we’re sure house hunters will fall in love with them.”

The Spruce has an open-plan kitchen with dining area and a separate sitting room with French doors to the garden. The main bedroom has a dressing area and en suite. The property is attractive to investors, with a guaranteed yield of five per cent over the first year.

Daren worked his way up to site supervisor before training in carpentry and then completing an assistant trainee site management scheme. He left the industry to start-up a restoration company before going back into housebuilding as a site manager.

His team are currently working on phase 2 at the location, where 70 homes are being built over the next year.

The Government’s Help to Buy – Equity Loan scheme is available at the location, plus the housebuilder’s Key Workers initiative.

Using the Help to Buy – Equity Loan scheme, home buyers need just a five per cent cash deposit, with the Government providing an equity loan of up to 20 per cent of the value of the property being bought. Purchasers then need to secure up to a 75 per cent mortgage.

Meanwhile, the Key Workers initiative offers great discounts to employees of certain public sector bodies.

Daren and his wife, Louise, have two children; Caitlin, 14, and Charlie, 11. They love the cinema and Daren plays golf in his spare time.
