New homes construction set to commence at Bishop's Stortford North

- 24 Jan 17

A consortium of leading house builders and developers has exchanged contracts on land in Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire.

The Bishop's Stortford North consortium, consisting of Taylor Wimpey, Bovis Homes, Kier Living, Persimmon Homes and The Fairfield Partnership had previously gained planning permission for a total of 2,200 new homes to be built at the site.

A consortium spokesperson said: "The consortium is delighted to have exchanged contracts with the land owners on the purchase of this land and plans to start work on site in the near future.

"We are looking forward to liaising with the local community as we deliver these new homes and facilities. Once completed they will not only help to meet significant housing need locally, but bring a range of further community and social infrastructure benefits."

The homes delivered by the various partners will range from one to five-bedroom family homes.

The development will also see the construction of two new primary schools, a neighbourhood centre, public open space and a sports pavilion, as well as retail and leisure facilities. Furthermore, the scheme will also enable the delivery of a new secondary school.

The exchange of contracts on the land, which is within the A120 bypass to the north of Bishop's Stortford, comes after several years of close consultation with East Herts District Council, Hertfordshire County Council, Bishop's Stortford Town Council and the local community.

Site work on the land is scheduled to start this spring, with the first residents due to move in in the next year.
