An experienced technical director has joined a national housebuilder, which has launched a new housing range, stating the environment and affordable housing are top of the agenda.

Bovis Homes' regional technical director, Nigel Lush
Nigel Lush, regional technical director at Bovis Homes, has more than 20 years’ experience in the housing industry and said building the right properties and protecting the environment were among the sector’s key issues.

Bovis Homes’ 2019 portfolio, which includes two-bedroom apartments up to large five-bedroom family houses, is being developed across the country along with Bovis Homes’ existing range.

The 47-year-old said: “I’m leading a technical team at Bovis Homes that is part of a very warm environment and enjoys close teamwork.

“Bovis Homes has a family ethos and looks after its employees, which pays dividends as colleagues want to go the extra mile and work their hardest for the company.

“I lead the team on the delivery of planning consent and design to support the business to meet its forecast and budgetary aims.

“Heading up the technical and planning departments has its challenges for any housebuilder, in terms of building homes the country needs, constructing affordable housing, helping people get onto the property ladder and looking after wildlife and the environment, which are all primary objectives.

“We want to help the younger generations as best we can and design, build and offer purchasing schemes that ensure they stay and thrive in their home regions.”

Nigel, who is based at the Western region’s HQ in Gloucestershire, covers the county, plus north Bristol, Wiltshire, Worcestershire and parts of Oxfordshire.

His 16-strong technical team, based in Bishop’s Cleeve, spend four-days a week in the office and one day out on location where they liaise with the build team.

Nigel aims to improve leadership and direction within the department further and staff are encouraged to visit developments and work flexibly to increase collaboration with other teams within the housebuilder.

Nigel, who grew up in Bristol and attended Brunel Technical College, has worked as a technical director for more than six years. He has been employed by several national and regional housebuilders and started off in consultancy as a civil engineer.

Supriya Ray, regional managing director at Bovis Homes, said: “Nigel is an impressive new leader within our Western region who is building on an already successful team to ensure we are performing the best we can on planning and design.

“We’re lucky to have his skills and experience and he has great knowledge of our Western region locations.”

Outside of work, Nigel enjoys spending time with his wife Sam, son Wil, 13, and the family pet, four-year-old Jack Russell, Jess.

The family loves to travel and tries to go overseas once a year, as well as take time to explore Devon and Cornwall.

Properties from Bovis Homes’ new collection are named after British trees and have been carefully designed for modern lifestyles, while still retaining a traditional charm.
