Northamptonshire villagers celebrate new bypass with housebuilders at Flore party

Housebuilding workers and community representatives in Northamptonshire joined together to mark the opening of a much-needed new bypass by Flore at a special celebration.

Bovis Homes’ West Midlands team helped fund the party, at Flore Millennium Village Hall, which saw jubilant residents – young and old – toast the transport infrastructure improvements.

Villagers have been campaigning for more than 50 years to have a bypass opened, as traffic through Glassthorpe Grange became heavy following the completion of the first section of the M1 in 1959.

Local resident, Jean Levell, said: "We have called for this bypass for so long, we now feel triumphant. The traffic has disrupted village life so much and at last this bypass has opened and we are already seeing the upside, with less traffic and noise.

"We are glad to celebrate with Bovis Homes, who we thank for their donation, this just means so much to villagers of all ages."

Bovis Homes has been a proud supporter of the community since launching its Glassthorpe Grange location in Flore, and through its planning agreement has contributed more than £154,000 towards highway and transport works serving the village.

Oliver Dorrill, sales advisor at Glassthorpe Grange on Flore’s High Street, said: “We are so happy for the residents of Flore that this bypass is now open, freeing up the roads and contributing to the peace and quiet that a village like Flore deserves to enjoy.

“Our Bovis Homes team in Flore has very strong links with the community here and we were delighted to contribute to the celebrations as this bypass means so much to everyone who works and lives here.”

The new bypass, which is the result of the expansion of nearby town Daventry, promises to make Flore less busy. The village is ideal for families seeking a quiet location but with all the benefits of easy access to Northampton or Daventry.
