Pupils in Gloucester with special needs receive surprise Christmas gift from local housebuilder

- 18 Dec 20

Vistry Group – which includes Bovis Homes and Linden Homes – has donated £9,386 to The Milestone School in Gloucester. The Ofsted ‘Outstanding’ rated school, for pupils with special needs aged from two to 16, is based on Longford Lane and the donation will go towards creating a new therapy room to host the school’s breakfast club and other activities. The housebuilder has also donated more than £35,000 in the past towards the Chamwell Centre Charity, which has launched an appeal to build a state-of-the-art centre with a hydrotherapy pool, therapy and sensory equipment and an all-ability play and sports area in the grounds of the school. Nicola Goldsmith, regional sales and marketing director at Vistry Cotswolds, said: “We have a very close relationship with The Milestone School and after what has been a very challenging year, we are delighted to make this contribution to the new therapy room and are sure that it will be highly valued by the school’s pupils. “We wish all the staff and pupils at The Milestone School a very Merry Christmas and prosperous 2021.” Diane Taylor, principal at The Milestone School added: “The Milestone Breakfast Club is fully funded by the school, with additional support through fundraising. The club is an essential part of our wider offering to the pupils, ensuring they are provided with a welcoming environment and a nutritious breakfast, so they are ready to learn. “The existing space we have is inaccessible for wheelchair users so this contribution will go towards a much-improved therapy room with rise and fall work benches and electronic wall-mounted units ensuring the space is fully accessible for pupils who use a wheel chair or have mobility issues. We want all the pupils to learn essential skills to prepare them for leading as independent a life as possible. “Part of the new room will also be used as a lunchtime common room for our senior pupils to enable them to have an age-appropriate space where they can learn to occupy their leisure time. “We are so grateful for the contribution from Vistry Group and the support we continue to receive from the housebuilder.” Vistry’s donation was predominantly raised through the sale of show home furniture and soft furnishings. Within the county, Bovis Homes has developments at Millfields in Cam, Oaklands in Hunts Grove, Hardwicke and The Avenue at Moreton-in-Marsh, and has just launched at Twigworth Green, Twigworth. Linden Homes will also be launching new homes at Twigworth Green and Oaklands in early 2021. Find out more about the school at https://themilestoneschool.co.uk/.
