Residents at Milton Keynes’ new-build location delighted with efficient – and friendly – delivery robots

- 28 May 21

Navigating their way along the streets of Milton Keynes, self-driving robots – providing service with a smile – have become a welcome part of life for those living in the town. Local residents – including those at Bovis Homes’ Whitehouse Park location – have been delighted with the efficient delivery service offered by Starship Technologies’ robots, ordering items such as groceries, takeaways and medication. Customers can place orders via Starship’s app which works alongside a number of participating businesses. The self-driving delivery robots, which travel up to 4mph, can travel anywhere a pedestrian can and their journeys can be monitored from collection to delivery on the app. The robots can move up kerbs and make deliveries whatever the weather – all with a smile on their face and something positive to say. Simon Fox, a resident at Bovis Homes’ Whitehouse Park development, said: “One of the first things we said to our five-year old son when we moved to Whitehouse Park was ‘we can order a robot’ – he was so excited. “We used the service a short while ago for essentials; not only was it quick and convenient, it was so much fun tracking its movements. Our son was literally bouncing up and down when it started to speak. We’ll definitely be ordering from them again soon.” On behalf of his team, Marc Pearson, area sales manager, also praised the delivery robots’ efficient – and friendly – service. “I’ve used the service several times to order lunch for myself and colleagues – it’s really handy to have. The app is easy to use and the robot even talks to you and wishes you a nice day. “The selection of shops and food outlets it delivers from is great and I can imagine it’s become popular for people working from home,” added Marc. “It’s something very different for people that haven’t been able to access it before and children love it.” Whitehouse Park, on Shorthorn Drive, offers a collection of two, three, four and five-bedroom homes with all that Milton Keynes has to offer on its doorstep. Home hunters are able to visit the sales centre, plus view the four-bedroom Aspen and five-bedroom Lime show homes, on an appointment-only basis.
