Retired couple settle at location they helped to plan

When Philippa Slatter considered downsizing in retirement with her husband, Howard, it brought her to a location that she had helped to plan more than a decade ago.

Philippa, formerly a nurse and local city councillor, and Howard, who was a teacher at a local school, have lived in Trumpington since 1980, having brought up their three daughters in the village. But when they realised they needed a more manageable home, they decided a move was in order.

"We had thought vaguely of downsizing, but liked a big garden and being able to have people to stay," Philippa explains.

"We felt that if we were going to move, we would stay locally to be close to our daughters and our grandchildren but it would come with a change of style, rather than a smaller version of what we had before.

"We looked at another development nearby, but were not taken with the design. It was then that we were directed to Bovis Homes' Paragon location in Trumpington," she says.

Paragon is one of Bovis Homes' flagship developments and recognises its unique location with a bespoke range of properties, which do not appear anywhere else in the country. Homes range from one-bed apartments to five-bed family homes.

"Paragon's location is perfect for us. We wanted something near to the Clay Farm

open space and the new Trumpington community centre, and near to bus routes, shops and services. It's also close to our daughters, who all live nearby with their children," Philippa says.

With the help of the Bovis Homes sales team, Philippa and Howard decided to reserve at Paragon as it was ideal for their requirements, and settled on the three-bedroom Peter.

"The sales staff were excellent, they took a real interest in us and we'd like to thank them for their help," says Philippa.
 
But buying a home at Paragon wasn't the first involvement Philippa had had with the site.

"I served for many years as a local councillor and was involved in the planning of the urban extension that this development forms part of, back in 2003," she remembers. "Little did I know then that it would end up being our home."

Philippa and Howard are now settled into their new home and looking forward to seeing the community develop further as more families move in.
