Show home hosts hospice for photo shoot

A local house builder was happy to help when a Plymouth hospice went searching for a suitable venue in which to take photographs to promote its work.

Bovis Homes welcomed the St Luke's Hospice nurses into its four and five-bedroom show homes at Sherford for a photo-shoot, and also donated £500 to the charity, which has its specialist unit and head office located in Turnchapel, Plymouth.

"Our hospice is just down the road from Sherford, and the new show homes were just what we needed for the setting of our new photographs," says Robert Maltby, Head of Communications and Marketing at the hospice.

"The majority of care provided by St Luke's Hospice in Plymouth is provided at a patient's home - in fact, only 7% of care actually takes place in the traditional hospice building. We are constantly trying to change people's perceptions of what a hospice is and find strong marketing imagery helps illustrate this. Asking a patient, when they are very poorly, to use their home for photos can be very inappropriate, so we have to find alternative locations," continues Robert.

"A big thank you to Bovis Homes for the use of their brand new show homes and for their kind donation of £500."

The photographs will appear on the hospice's new website this summer.

Sherford, which is situated between Plymouth and the South Hams, is a brand new community which is being built by Bovis Homes and two other consortium partners, and will eventually bring 5,500 new homes to the area.

"We were only too happy to lend our show home to St Luke's Hospice Plymouth," says Regional Marketing Manager, Stacey Banfield. "It seemed like an excellent idea and we were glad to be able to help."
