Bovis Homes donated £500 to Silverleys Scouts
A Bishop’s Stortford Scout group has received a welcome donation from a local housebuilder towards their hut refurbishment project.

Bovis Homes, whose Stortford Fields development in Bishop’s Stortford is situated next door to the hut, donated £500 to Silverleys Scouts.

The hut is used every weekday by Cubs, Scouts, Guides, Beavers and Explorers and is a vital community asset.

Maria Maxwell, marketing manager in Bovis Homes’ South East region, said: “Bishop’s Stortford is a growing community and it is wonderful to be able to support the Silverleys Scouts who bring joy to so many local children.

“We wish them all the best with their refurbishment and look forward to visiting them very soon.”

Mark Fletcher, from the Silverleys Scout Group Committee, added: “One of the main goals of scouting is to encourage young people to enjoy a healthier lifestyle, from outdoor activities and camping, to earning numerous badges. Partaking in these activities as a group, the Scouts learn together, gaining new skills and forming friendships with other local children outside of their 'school circle' of friends.

“As such, our committee’s policy is to keep running costs low to ensure as many children as possible have the opportunity to benefit from these clubs at the hut. This means that capital projects are only carried out when essential and they must be covered by special fundraising. So, donations from local businesses are vital and we are very grateful for the contribution from Bovis Homes, which is a huge boost to us.”

The refurbishment is completing essential work including new doors, painting, roof repairs, new tables, benches and cupboards among other things. Silverleys Scouts is aiming to raise £7,400 in total for the project.

Stortford Fields is located about a mile from the town centre of Bishop’s Stortford with excellent commuter links to London. Home buyers can choose from a selection of two, three, four and five-bedroom homes from the housebuilder’s new collection. Find out more on the Bovis Homes website.
