Social enterprise backing key workers during lockdown receives support from local housebuilder
- 28 Nov 20
Bovis Homes – part of the Vistry Group – donated £500 to Maymessy Community Interest Company Ltd (CIC), a social enterprise cookery school for disadvantaged adults and children in Wantage, Oxfordshire. During lockdown earlier this year, Maymessy CIC and the young people they work with provided homemade snacks and care packages to NHS and keyworkers across Oxfordshire. The donation from the housebuilder will aid the social enterprise in running events and workshops for disadvantaged groups in the local community in the future. Bovis Homes’ East Gate location is based in Wantage, with The Silk Mill located in nearby East Hanney. Maymessy founder, Anna Richards, said: "Social enterprises make a huge difference to local communities and we are really touched to receive this welcome donation from Bovis Homes. “Times are hard at the moment for many disadvantaged groups and the funds will go towards supporting the young people we work with and the future of Maymessy CIC. We are very grateful for this support!” Nicola Goldsmith, sales and marketing director in Vistry Cotswolds, added: “Social enterprises like Maymessy CIC are invaluable to the communities which they support. We are thrilled to be able to offer this donation at this challenging time.” Maymessy CIC launched in May 2017 when Anna Richards moved from London with her family and turned a disused cow-shed into a beautiful barn which now holds the cookery school. Earlier this year, they provided care packages to NHS staff working in the Covid-19 ward at the Churchill Hospital and the Children’s Hospital in Oxford. Care packages and homemade snacks were also given to the Wantage fire service and 75 NHS critical care staff who were living in a hotel while self-isolating from their families. East Gate in Wantage offers homebuyers three, four and five-bedroom homes while The Silk Mill in East Hanney has two and four-bedroom homes available.
